Of Blessed Memory: His Eminence Metropolitan Damaskinos

Dear Friends,

We just received the sad news of the falling asleep in the Lord of His Eminence Metropolitan Damaskinos of the Orthodox Church, on November 5 in the early morning hours. The funeral will be held this coming Thursday, November 10th, at the Orthodox Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate (Chambésy).
May His Memory be Eternal!

Metropolitan Damaskinos has been an inspired monastic and an illuminated scholar who encouraged both the tradition of the Church and the renewal of the ecumenical dialogue. The conferences about the theological encounter between the Orthodox Church and Israel conducted by him and his team here in Jerusalem and in Athens have had a lasting effect and have unlocked opportunities for ecclesiastical and political developments. The standard publication on those efforts remains the 1994 edition of Immanuel 26/27, Malcolm Lowe (ed.),  Orthodox Christians and Jews on Continuity and Renewal. The Third Academic Meeting between Orthodoxy and Judaism.
